Online vs In-Person Driver Fitting
What online driver fitting can do well, what it can only partly mitigate, and what still needs real-world validation.

Is online fitting the same as in-person fitting?
No. Online fitting can provide a structured, independent interpretation of launch monitor data, but it cannot physically observe the golfer, test clubs live or capture feel in the same way as a fitter in a bay.
The honest position is that online and in-person fitting solve overlapping but different problems.
| Factor | Online fitting can mitigate? | Smart Golf Fitting Explanation |
|---|---|---|
| Retail brand bias | Completely | The online fitting is designed around data rather than current stock levels or commission. |
| Sales pressure | Completely | The golfer is under no pressure and receives a comprehensive report to allow review of the recommendation before buying. |
| Inconsistent human judgement | Completely | A deterministic process applies the same principles every time. |
| Poor session data | Partially | The report can flag weak data, but cannot create missing data. |
| Physical observation | No | The system cannot see posture, grip pressure, fatigue or movement quality. |
| Feel and sound | No | The golfer still needs real-world validation. |
Smart Golf Fitting uses a deterministic process whereby the same inputs will always produce the same recommendations. That isn't always the case with a face to face fitting where the shots from one session to another will vary, and one fitter may produce a different outcome from another. Smart Golf Fitting allows you to upload the shots that you believe most represents your swing and our deterministic pipeline will always ensure the same process is followed and always produces the same outcome.
How was the online process adapted from face-to-face fitting?
The proprietary fitting engine has been designed by consulting with professional fitting experts, so it follows the same broad reasoning style as a face-to-face driver fitting. It has then been adapted for an online-only process where the evidence comes from uploaded data rather than live club testing.
- The online process emphasises representative shot patterns.
- It makes uncertainty visible because the fitter is not present in the bay.
- It uses plain-English explanations so the golfer can understand the result after the session.
When is online fitting most useful?
Online fitting is most useful when the golfer has usable launch monitor data and wants an independent, structured recommendation before buying or testing drivers. It is less suitable when the golfer has no reliable data or when the main issue is clearly a swing-change problem.
| Good use case | Why it fits |
|---|---|
| Second opinion | The golfer already has launch data but wants independent interpretation. |
| Pre-fitting shortlist | The golfer wants to know what categories to test. |
| Remote access | The golfer cannot easily access a specialist fitter. |
| Purchase planning | The golfer wants a practical report before spending money. |
How does Smart Golf Fitting compare to manufacturers own online fitting?
Manufacturer offerings are not brand netural as they can obviously only recommend their own clubs. Additionally the recommendations are based on simple questions. Smart Golf Fitting uses launch monitor data to ensure the recommendations are backed up by science and metrics.
